The city of San Felipe de Puerto Plata, commonly known as Puerto Plata, is the capital city of Puerto Plata province. Near the Atlantic Ocean and very close to Isabel de Torres Hill, Puerto Plata is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in the Dominican Republic.
In the city, which is the bustling centre of the province, it is located one of the country’s biggest harbours, and the International Airport of Gregorio Luperón. Tourism is its financial support due to the beaches of Long Beach, Dorada and Cofresí.
There, you can go for a walk along its avenues or its main streets like Beller Avenue and General Luperón Avenue, which is the city’s seawall. Downtown, you can find several victorian-style buildings, which were built during the second half of the 20th Century by the English. Furthermore, its narrow, winding streets, and its marine atmosphere confer to the city a special charm.
